Heritage Swimmer Race at Bahrain Bay Celebrates Marine Tradition and Athletic Spirit

The Heritage Swimmer Race at Bahrain Bay brought together swimmers, spectators, and organizers to celebrate Bahrain’s strong maritime heritage and athletic excellence. Held on Friday, this open-water competition marked the beginning of the eighth Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Sports Season.

About 80 swimmers participated in the Heritage Swimmer Race at Bahrain Bay, representing two age categories. Competitors took on either 1,000-meter or 800-meter races, creating a competitive and high-energy atmosphere. The event also saw significant public interest and community support.

In the 30 to 45 age group (Category A), swimmer Mohammed Abdulaziz Al-Dossary claimed first place. He completed the 1,000-meter swim in just over 16 minutes. Mohammed Yahya Jafan followed in second place with a slightly slower time, while Bilal Othman Al-Zar’i took third.

Meanwhile, in the 46 and older category (Category B), the 800-meter swim ended with Sanad Bader Jassim securing victory. Abdulrahman Jassim Abdulrahman earned second place, and Nawaf Hamad Mujadam closely finished third.

Following the race, the Bahrain Heritage Sports Committee celebrated the winners. The top three swimmers from each category received awards during a crowning ceremony led by key organizers. In addition, the top ten finishers in each category earned valuable prizes, encouraging continued participation in upcoming competitions.

The Heritage Swimmer Race at Bahrain Bay is more than just a sporting event. It reflects the Kingdom’s rich history of marine traditions and highlights the importance of preserving cultural identity through athletic events. Organizers emphasized their commitment to both heritage and sport.

This season, which continues until mid-November, includes more traditional competitions. These events range from rowing and oyster extraction to a fishing contest known as hadaq. Additionally, for the first time, a new event called “Al-Nahham” will open participation to all GCC countries.

Looking ahead, youth-focused competitions are also on the calendar. These upcoming races aim to foster young talent and deepen their connection to Bahrain’s maritime past.

Overall, the Heritage Swimmer Race at Bahrain Bay stood out as a vibrant and meaningful event, blending tradition with community spirit and sportsmanship.
