Oman Kite Festival 2025 is just one week away from launching in Barr Al Hikman. Running from July 15th to July 24th, the event promises thrilling kitesurfing competitions, cultural activities, and family entertainment. Set along Oman’s stunning coastline, the festival aims to attract global adventure tourists and showcase the country’s natural beauty.
The Oman Kite Festival 2025 builds on last year’s Oman Downwinder success. Moreover, it expands both its duration and locations. Organisers now expect more international athletes and a richer experience for all visitors. Abdulhafidh Al-Harthi, Assets Manager Experiences at Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group), said the festival highlights Oman’s unique assets. He added it helps diversify tourism.
At the heart of the festival is the multi-stage “Downwinder” race. This demanding race takes place across four legs from July 16th to July 23rd. It starts in Barr Al Hikman, moves to Masirah Island, then Ras Al Ruwais, followed by Pink Lagoons to Al Ashkharah, and finishes from Ras Al Jinz to Ras Al Hadd. Each stage challenges competitors with diverse coastal conditions and stunning views.
Besides the “Downwinder,” the festival includes various competitions. For example, the Kite Course Race opens on July 15th in Barr Al Hikman. Then, Masirah Island hosts the Big Air Show on July 17th and the Freestyle Show on July 18th. On July 19th, the Coastal Race takes place in Masirah Island. Finally, the event concludes with the Slalom Race at Ras Al Hadd Lake on July 24th. These competitions offer excitement for participants and spectators alike.
Away from the water, the festival offers many cultural and family-friendly activities. Visitors can explore a vibrant SME exhibition at Ashkharah Municipal Park. This showcases local businesses and Omani traditions. This adds a deeper cultural experience alongside the sporting events.
Overall, the Oman Kite Festival 2025 aligns with Oman’s National Tourism Strategy 2040. Specifically, it supports the country’s goal to become a top destination for international sports and adventure tourism. Therefore, organisers invite both local residents and international guests to celebrate this unique blend of sport, nature, and culture.
