Royal decree transfers medical services to Health Ministry

Oman has taken a major step in health sector restructuring as a royal decree transfers medical services to Health Ministry control. Sultan Haitham bin Tarik issued Royal Decree No. 51/2025 on Tuesday, marking a significant shift in governance. This decision brings the Directorate General of Medical Services under the Ministry of Health’s supervision.

According to Article 1 of the decree, the entire Directorate General of Medical Services moves from the Diwan of Royal Court to the Health Ministry. This move reflects ongoing efforts to centralize health administration and improve coordination across institutions. By doing so, Oman aims to streamline healthcare delivery nationwide.

Article 2 of the decree clarifies that all allocations, rights, and responsibilities will now rest with the Health Ministry. Assets formerly managed by the Diwan’s medical department will also shift accordingly. This includes both physical infrastructure and logistical frameworks that support medical operations. As Oman transfers medical services to Health Ministry leadership, integration becomes the top priority.

Meanwhile, Article 3 outlines the transfer of all staff to their new administrative home. Medical professionals, paramedics, and support staff will retain their job status, salary grades, and financial entitlements. The move ensures continuity of employment and service quality during the transition. Authorities plan to support staff as they adjust to the ministry’s systems and protocols.

Furthermore, Article 4 mandates the publication of this decree in the Official Gazette. The law takes immediate effect upon its release, enforcing all provisions without delay. As Oman transfers medical services to Health Ministry management, prompt implementation remains crucial.

This development fits into the broader strategy of reinforcing the Ministry of Health’s role as the nation’s primary healthcare provider. Officials believe that unifying healthcare oversight under one institution enhances efficiency, transparency, and policy coherence. The decision also aligns with Vision 2040 goals, which emphasize public sector integration and service excellence.

The royal directive marks a clear effort to modernize the healthcare system. As Oman transfers medical services to Health Ministry authority, it signals greater alignment between strategic planning and execution. Citizens can expect more consistent care and policy clarity in the coming months.
