UAE to Use AI Gap Analysis to Reshape Public Education

Thousands of teachers across the UAE will soon undergo AI gap analysis to reshape public education. Moreover, the move aims to help educators guide students more effectively in an AI-driven world. Sarah Al Amiri, the UAE’s Minister of Education, announced this initiative at the ForsaTEK event. The annual Emirates Group event, in fact, highlights innovation, technology, and start-up ecosystems. Al Amiri stressed that teachers must evolve to prepare learners for a fast-changing digital landscape.

“We have redesigned the competency framework for educators,” said Al Amiri. Additionally, “Thousands of teachers will complete an AI gap analysis this week,” she added. The analysis will identify skills gaps and, furthermore, guide professional development efforts. “Our goal is to empower educators, not replace them,” Al Amiri explained. She emphasised that teachers play an irreplaceable role in nurturing cognitive and ethical skills.

The UAE continues to promote AI integration in education. Authorities, in addition, plan to introduce AI as a subject in all public schools next year. “Educators can no longer act as simple knowledge deliverers,” Al Amiri noted. “They must guide students in developing purpose, reasoning, and resilience,” she added. Moreover, the initiative includes revamping data systems to inform smarter decision-making in schools.

Al Amiri warned of potential risks linked to AI reliance. For instance, students could become passive consumers of AI-generated content, she said. This trend, consequently, could weaken critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. “Superficial learning undermines deeper understanding and judgment,” Al Amiri explained. Therefore, prioritising the development of human skills must remain a core goal.

“Students need to understand the logic behind technology,” said Al Amiri. As a result, “This helps them remain adaptable and discerning,” she added. Skills such as curiosity, resilience, and ethical judgment will remain vital. This also means, of course, educators’ roles must continue to evolve. UAE to use AI gap analysis to reshape public education and strengthen these essential capacities.

Traditional classroom models now struggle to engage tech-savvy students. Consequently, many upper-grade students lose interest in pursuing teaching careers. This trend, if left unchecked, could affect the future of the education workforce. UAE to use AI gap analysis to reshape public education and address these challenges. Finally, Al Amiri called on all educators to embrace this critical transformation.
