UAE President Receives Official Invitation to Arab Summit in Baghdad

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday received Fuad Mohammed Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi. The Iraqi minister conveyed an official invitation from President Dr Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid for Sheikh Mohamed to attend the upcoming Arab Summit. The summit is scheduled to be held in Baghdad on 17 May.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed and Minister Hussein reviewed the longstanding bilateral relations between the UAE and Iraq. They explored avenues to deepen cooperation across various sectors in service of the two nations’ shared interests. Their discussions also covered regional and international developments. Both sides underscored the importance of enhancing peace, stability, and cooperation across the Middle East.

Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the UAE’s enduring support for Iraq’s sovereignty and stability. He expressed his hopes for continued development and prosperity for the Iraqi people.

The meeting was attended by a number of high-level UAE officials. The attendees included Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region; and several other sheikhs, ministers, and dignitaries. Members of the Iraqi delegation were also present.

This visit builds on a series of recent diplomatic engagements between the two nations. In February, Sheikh Mohamed hosted Iraqi President Dr Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid in Abu Dhabi. They discussed strengthening ties in key areas such as the economy, investment, development, and renewable energy. Both leaders emphasized the value of regional stability and the importance of a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

In December 2024, Sheikh Mohamed also held a phone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa’ Al Sudani. He reaffirmed the strong fraternal ties between the UAE and Iraq. The call focused on expanding cooperation in various sectors and promoting shared efforts to support peace, security, and prosperity throughout the region.

President Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the UAE’s unwavering commitment to working closely with Iraq. He expressed interest in exploring new opportunities for collaboration and supporting regional peace initiatives. The Iraqi leadership, in turn, expressed gratitude for the UAE’s support.
