UAE and South Korea Forge Stronger Ties in Centennial Economic Partnership

South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are set to strengthen their centennial economic partnership, following a high-level summit in Abu Dhabi on November 18, 2025.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung met with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss ways to expand collaboration across energy, defense, advanced technology, and AI sectors. From the start, both leaders emphasized their commitment to a shared future and mutual growth.

President Lee described the UAE as a “brotherly nation” and highlighted the importance of building a long-lasting centennial economic partnership. He noted that the relationship could now advance in future-oriented fields beyond trade, nuclear energy, and defense.

During the summit, Lee underlined opportunities in health care, medical services, aerospace, and artificial intelligence. He emphasized that bold and strategic steps would benefit both nations, helping them achieve shared prosperity and innovation leadership.

President Mohammed welcomed Lee’s decision to make the UAE his first Middle East destination since taking office in June. He praised the Barakah nuclear power plant as a model of bilateral cooperation. Moreover, he encouraged deeper collaboration in science, technology, and the aerospace sector.

The leaders also highlighted the role of South Korean military personnel stationed in the UAE, including the Akh Unit. Both sides agreed that such defense cooperation strengthens the centennial economic partnership and provides security confidence for future projects.

To mark the state visit, four UAE Air Force fighter jets escorted Lee’s aircraft into UAE airspace. Additionally, authorities illuminated prominent buildings in Abu Dhabi with the South Korean flag, symbolizing the strong diplomatic and economic bond.

In a written interview, President Lee said the visit lays the groundwork for a “new centennial phase” in bilateral ties. He stressed that expanding cooperation across traditional and emerging sectors will solidify the strategic alliance.

As the only Middle Eastern country with a special strategic partnership with South Korea, the UAE now moves closer to becoming a central hub for innovation, defense, and energy collaboration. Both countries appear ready to take decisive steps to realize the full potential of their centennial economic partnership.
