UAE Accelerates Cloud Investments to Lead Global Digital Economy

The UAE is rapidly advancing digital infrastructure investments to become a regional hub for cloud and AI technologies. The country’s data centre and cloud sectors are booming due to government digital transformation initiatives and AI adoption.

According to reports, the UAE’s data centre market was valued at US$1.26 billion in 2024. Projections indicate it could exceed US$3.3 billion by 2030. The country also operates and plans hundreds of megawatts in combined data centre capacity.

Investments come from global operators, sovereign funds, regional developers, and private firms. Consequently, digital infrastructure investments have become a national priority supporting economic growth and technological competitiveness.

Executives from UAE and international companies confirmed that data centre investments are gaining strong momentum. They noted that local cloud infrastructure ensures true data sovereignty. This allows organizations to manage AI and data securely within national borders.

Fahad Al Hassawi, CEO of du, emphasized the company’s continued investments in national data centres. He added that these projects support the digital economy and reinforce data sovereignty. Furthermore, 2025 investments in networks and infrastructure reached AED545 million, up from AED442 million in 2024.

This increase shows du’s focus on enhancing data centres, developing 5G networks, and expanding the sovereign cloud platform. Such initiatives accelerate AI adoption, attract digital services, and support government and private sectors efficiently.

Executives from Alibaba Cloud, Oracle, and Cloudera highlighted the UAE’s open economic and regulatory environment. They said it makes the country ideal for cloud and AI investments. They also emphasized that advanced cloud centres provide essential capabilities for hybrid clouds, secure processing, and predictive analytics.

Experts agreed that cloud infrastructure drives national growth by boosting efficiency, fostering innovation, and enabling organizations to scale safely. As a result, the UAE is emerging as a global leader in digital transformation.

In summary, these initiatives showcase the UAE’s strategic role in building advanced technological capabilities. By focusing on digital infrastructure investments, the country strengthens competitiveness and ensures sustainable growth in the digital economy.
