Dr Anwar Gargash, adviser to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed, stressed the importance of Syrian President Ahmad Al Shara’s recent visit. Indeed, Syria is in a critical phase of rebuilding after more than a decade of civil war. Therefore, this visit marks a key moment in Syria-UAE relations and future cooperation.
Sheikh Mohamed and Al Shara met in Abu Dhabi on Monday. Dr Gargash called the talks a “pivotal stage” in Syria’s history. Moreover, the leaders focused on economic recovery and development, which remain vital for Syria’s long-term stability and growth.
Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the UAE’s steady support for the Syrian people. He also emphasized the country’s commitment to peace, stability, and sustainable growth. Al Shara expressed his gratitude to the UAE for its support and promised to strengthen Syria-UAE relations further.
This meeting was the second between the two leaders since Mr Al Shara assumed office. Dr Gargash said it highlighted the “depth of fraternal relations” and more importantly confirmed the UAE’s dedication to Syria’s progress at this critical time.
Economic and developmental issues formed the core of the discussions. In addition, Dr Gargash noted the strong Syrian community in the UAE, which numbers around 400,000 people. Their success and integration in the Emirates represent a vital bridge in boosting Syria-UAE relations.
Dr Gargash believes economic growth will help Syria recover from the conflict and move toward prosperity. He further expressed hope that ongoing cooperation will help rebuild Syria’s infrastructure and social fabric.
Al Shara once led the Hayat Tahrir Al Sham rebel group, which ousted former president Bashar Al Assad. However, he now aims to improve ties with Arab and Gulf countries.
During his first UAE visit in April, Sheikh Mohamed warmly welcomed Mr Al Shara. Following that, the UAE pledged support for Syria’s reconstruction efforts.
Syria-UAE relations are steadily growing. Overall, both sides look forward to stronger ties to benefit their people and the wider region.
