Super Plate Auction Draws Collectors in Dubai

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has launched a super plate auction, featuring some of the Emirate’s rarest vehicle numbers. The 120th Open Auction, scheduled for 27 December, will include 90 distinctive 2, 3, 4, and 5-digit plates, including AA 25, BB 12, and BB 30. Collectors, status seekers, and investors are expected to compete for these highly coveted combinations, underlining Dubai’s vibrant car culture and prestige market.

Registration for the super plate auction begins on 22 December through the RTA website, mobile app, or customer service centres. These centers operate in Umm Ramool, Deira, and Al Barsha, offering multiple registration options. On-site registration will open at 2 pm on auction day, although limited seating encourages early participation.

Each bidder must hold a Dubai traffic file to qualify for participation. Participants must also submit a Dh25,000 security deposit cheque payable to the RTA. Additionally, bidders must pay a Dh120 non-refundable registration fee, either online or at approved centers. These requirements ensure that only serious bidders take part in the auction.

The auction highlights AA 25 and BB 12 as standout offerings, drawing interest for their concise and memorable formats. BB 30 also features prominently, appealing to collectors seeking exclusivity and recognition. Alongside these highlights, five-digit plates broaden access for buyers seeking rarity at comparatively lower entry levels.

Premium letter series included in the sale feature codes such as CC, K, N, O, R, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z. Each successful bid will include a 5 percent value-added tax, aligning with current tax regulations in the Emirate.

RTA auctions have historically generated significant revenues, often reaching tens of millions of dirhams per event. Short-format plates regularly command premium prices, driven by demand from residents upgrading vehicles and investors seeking alternative assets. Market observers say the sustained interest reflects Dubai’s strong luxury sector and deep-rooted automotive culture.

Looking ahead, the RTA plans to continue hosting regular auctions to meet ongoing demand. The super plate auction reinforces Dubai’s status as a global hub for luxury, collectibles, and high-value automotive assets.
