Strengthening Cooperation to Enhance the Labor Market in Bahrain

The CEO of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) met with representatives of embassies and consulates from labor-exporting countries. The meeting, which coincided with International Workers’ Day, aimed to boost cooperation and improve the work environment in Bahrain.

The CEO highlighted the role of embassies and consulates in supporting Bahrain’s labor policies. He emphasized the importance of strong, ongoing partnerships to protect workers’ rights. The discussion focused on ensuring that workers adhere to laws and regulations and that economic activities follow valid work permits.

Bahrain continues to develop its work environment in line with international best practices. An integrated legislative and regulatory system supports this effort. The CEO affirmed the government’s commitment to improving the labor market and creating a balanced, safe workplace for everyone involved.

A key topic during the meeting was the Wage Protection System. This system ensures that employers pay workers electronically. It protects workers’ rights by guaranteeing timely payment and reducing wage-related disputes. The CEO also introduced an initiative to issue an International Bank Account Number (IBAN) for expatriate workers. This process will occur when workers arrive in Bahrain or renew their work permits. The initiative will speed up the electronic payment of wages and ease workers’ integration into the financial system.

The CEO praised the International Organization for Migration for its role in regulating Bahrain’s labor market and safeguarding workers’ rights. He also thanked embassies and consulates for their valuable support in strengthening communication and advancing LMRA initiatives.

These ongoing efforts aim to establish a safe and balanced work environment. The LMRA continues to improve the labor market, ensuring the protection of workers’ rights and contributing to economic growth.
