The Speaker of Qatar’s Shura Council has strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza. He called it a “crime of genocide and ethnic cleansing” happening in full view of the international community. He emphasized that the failure of the world to intervene and stop these violations places the global community at a significant moral and historical crossroads.
He demanded an immediate end to the violence and the rejection of the displacement of innocent civilians from their homes. The Speaker called on all parliamentarians to unite in support of truth and human justice. He advocated for a collective stand against the injustices occurring in Gaza.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, he also pointed to the role of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). It is an organization established over a century ago to promote peace and reject war. He stressed that the IPU must now, more than ever, fulfill its role in pressuring member parliaments. They should influence their governments to take decisive action to stop the aggression. The Speaker pointed out the repeated failures of United Nations institutions to protect civilians and enforce international humanitarian law.
Additionally, the Speaker participated in the 215th session of the IPU’s Governing Council, held as part of the Union’s 150th General Assembly. During the session, the council reviewed the report of IPU President Dr. Tulia Axson. This report detailed the most significant activities during the 214th session and the work of the Executive Office.
