Senegal and UAE Strengthen Strategic Partnership with Ten New Agreements

Senegal and the UAE reinforced their strategic partnership by signing ten memoranda of understanding (MoUs). These agreements reflect a shared vision for long-term cooperation and sustainable development. The MoUs emphasize the importance of this strategic partnership in multiple sectors, ranging from energy to digital infrastructure.

The leaders in Dakar on December 10 focused the agreements on priority areas such as energy, mining, health, agriculture, infrastructure, and technology. In energy, both countries plan to enhance Senegal’s gas network and construct a 200-megawatt photovoltaic power plant. In mining, they will develop an iron ore mine, phosphate resources, and establish a national gold trading post.

In health, they will build a generic drug factory and expand hospital facilities. In agriculture, they will advance the National Agropole Development Program. In infrastructure, they will implement social housing programs and improve digital networks.

Senegalese officials highlighted their commitment to a sovereign, just, and prosperous nation. Both countries emphasized innovation, investment, and alignment with the Senegal 2050 Vision. The Prime Minister instructed relevant ministries and central agencies to coordinate efforts for quick and efficient implementation.

The agreements also target transport and logistics, including the expansion of Blaise Diagne International Airport and the standard-gauge railway. They plan to boost tourism and real estate development as well. By taking these steps, both nations aim to increase regional integration, economic growth, and international collaboration.

Officials noted that this visit builds on previous engagements, including President Faye’s December 2024 visit to Abu Dhabi and Prime Minister Sonko’s September 2025 trip. These exchanges strengthen the strategic partnership that began in the 1970s.

In conclusion, the ten new MoUs mark a significant advancement in Senegal-UAE relations. Through joint projects, shared goals, and coordinated efforts, the strategic partnership will drive sustainable development, innovation, and investment across multiple sectors.
