Saudi Opposition Welcome to Return Home, Says Head of State Security

Saudi Arabia’s head of State Security, Abdulaziz Al-Howairini, has announced that opposition members living abroad are welcome to return to the country without the fear of facing punishment. In an interview with MBC’s Hekayat Waadprogram during Ramadan, Al-Howairini emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to reconciliation.

He explained that, under the directives of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, individuals with no legal charges against them—such as homicide, theft, or assault—are encouraged to return home. Al-Howairini reassured those who might have been misled or left the country under uncertain circumstances that the state will not seek punishment for them.

He further stated, “If a person has not committed a crime, but merely considered committing one, the state will address this issue and take steps to resolve it.” This stance reflects Saudi Arabia’s intent to offer a fresh start to those in opposition, focusing on rehabilitation rather than retribution.

The announcement underscores the Kingdom’s efforts to foster a more inclusive environment and promote peace. This gesture signals a desire for national unity, as individuals are being given the opportunity to return without the fear of prosecution. As the country continues to move forward with various reforms, this policy serves as a sign of the government’s willingness to resolve past misunderstandings and build bridges with its citizens, both at home and abroad.

In conclusion, Saudi Arabia’s head of State Security has made it clear that opposition members can return without fear of punishment, as long as they have not committed serious crimes. This approach reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to addressing grievances and fostering a peaceful, unified society.
