RIYADH – Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Monday in Riyadh. The leaders discussed key regional issues and explored ways to strengthen Saudi-Lebanese relations.
The meeting took place at Al-Yamamah Palace, where an official reception welcomed Aoun. This visit marked his first trip to Saudi Arabia since taking office. Senior officials from both countries joined the discussions, underscoring the importance of the event.
Deepening Diplomatic Ties
Aoun emphasized that his visit provided an opportunity to reaffirm the strong Saudi-Lebanese relations. He expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s support in maintaining Lebanon’s stability, ensuring security, and helping its institutions function effectively. The Lebanese leader highlighted Riyadh’s past assistance and stressed the need for continued cooperation.
During the meeting, both sides examined pressing regional matters and ways to boost political and economic ties. Given Lebanon’s ongoing crisis, Aoun sought renewed backing from Saudi Arabia, particularly in military aid and financial assistance.
Lebanon’s Challenges and Future Prospects
Lebanon faces significant challenges, including a severe economic downturn and the aftermath of Hezbollah’s prolonged conflict with Israel. More than 4,000 people lost their lives, and large parts of Lebanon remain in ruins. Many Lebanese citizens look to Aoun’s leadership for solutions to these ongoing issues.
Saudi Arabia has played a key role in Lebanon’s recovery efforts in the past. Observers see this high-profile meeting as a potential turning point in efforts to strengthen Saudi-Lebanese relations.
Next Stop: Cairo
Following his visit to Riyadh, Aoun and his delegation will travel to Cairo on Tuesday. They will participate in the extraordinary Arab summit, where leaders will address urgent regional matters.
This visit signals a possible reset in relations between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. As Lebanon works to rebuild, the discussions in Riyadh may shape the next chapter of strong Saudi-Lebanese relations.
