Riyadh – On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet reaffirmed its full support for the resolutions made during the extraordinary Arab League summit in Cairo. The summit rejected the displacement of Palestinians from their land and aimed to address the devastating effects of the ongoing war in Gaza.
The Cabinet reiterated the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and to establish an independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Additionally, the Cabinet endorsed the plan submitted by Egypt regarding Gaza, which was developed in full coordination with Palestine and other Arab nations. The plan includes deploying an international protection and peacekeeping force in Palestinian territories.
The Cabinet also stressed the need for a just and comprehensive peace that ensures the rights of the Palestinian people. Ministers condemned Israel’s decision to block humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, urging the international community to take responsibility for these serious violations. They called for the activation of international accountability mechanisms and sustainable access to aid.
In addition to discussing the situation in Gaza, the Cabinet addressed a joint statement issued following President Joseph Aoun’s visit to Riyadh. This statement emphasized the importance of fully implementing the Taif Agreement, which ended Lebanon’s civil war in 1989. It also highlighted the need to ensure Lebanon’s sovereignty, restrict weapons to the Lebanese state, and support the Lebanese army. The statement called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territories.
During their meeting, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and President Aoun agreed to address obstacles affecting the resumption of exports from Lebanon to Saudi Arabia and explored ways to facilitate travel between the two countries. Both leaders also emphasized their commitment to Lebanon’s economic recovery and the implementation of necessary reforms.
Furthermore, the Cabinet affirmed its ongoing support for social services and national initiatives aimed at providing adequate housing for qualifying families. This includes the Jood Regions campaign, which, since its launch in 2024, has provided more than 10,000 housing units to the neediest families across the Kingdom. King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have contributed a total of SR150 million ($40 million) to the second phase of this campaign.
The Cabinet also reviewed progress on major development projects aimed at enhancing Saudi Arabia’s overall development. Ministers congratulated the opening of the first phase of the Sports Boulevard project in Riyadh, which is part of Saudi Vision 2030’s Quality-of-Life Program. The project is now 40 percent complete and will help transform Riyadh into one of the world’s most livable cities.
