Saudi Arabia Takes Firm Action Against Misinformation About Cholesterol-Lowering Drugs

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health has launched a firm campaign to combat misinformation about cholesterol-lowering drugs. The ministry urged citizens to rely only on verified medical guidance from trusted professionals. This step comes after several misleading claims about these medications spread rapidly across social media platforms.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the ministry warned that many patients had stopped their prescribed treatments after encountering false online claims. It stressed that changing or stop medications without consulting a doctor poses a severe risk to health.

The ministry explained that statins and other cholesterol-lowering medicines are fully allowed by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority and international health bodies. They are safe, effective, and essential in preventing heart disease, strokes, and other complications related to high cholesterol.

Still, some social media users continue to share false claims. They say these medications cause diabetes, muscle pain, or memory problems. However, the ministry clarified that such statements lack scientific proof and may endanger people who rely on these treatments.

Furthermore, the ministry urged healthcare professionals to follow medical ethics and avoid spreading unverified opinions. It reminded doctors and pharmacists that public trust depends on honest, evidence-based communication.

At the same time, the General Authority of Media Regulation announced new cooperation with the Ministry of Health. Together, they plan to take strict legal measures against those spreading harmful medical rumors. This partnership aims to ensure that public awareness remains accurate, reliable, and science-driven.

By acting decisively, Saudi Arabia seeks to strengthen public confidence in its healthcare system. The authorities emphasized that misinformation about cholesterol-lowering drugs not only spreads confusion but also puts lives at risk.

Ultimately, the campaign highlights the government’s ongoing mission to protect citizens’ health and promote responsible digital behavior. Through education and accountability, Saudi Arabia continues its fight against misinformation about cholesterol-lowering drugs to build a healthier, better-informed society.
