During the holy month of Ramadan, employees with disabilities, as well as their caregivers, are entitled to a reduction of two working hours per day while maintaining full pay. This reduction applies to all government agencies, ensuring that it is in line with regular working hours for individuals with disabilities, as per Article 40 of Law No. 8 of 2010 regarding the rights of persons with disabilities.
Wafaa Al-Muhanna, the Director General of the Public Authority for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities, confirmed that all ministries have been informed of this adjustment in working hours. The policy is designed to support employees with disabilities—including those with severe, moderate, or minor disabilities—as well as those who are caregivers for individuals with moderate or severe disabilities, and those with guardianship responsibilities.
This reduction in working hours also applies to employees caring for family members with moderate or severe disabilities. However, the policy clarifies that it does not apply to two individuals from the same family unless both are disabled, and each is the caregiver for a person with a disability.
Employees eligible for this reduction can coordinate with their employers to determine when the hours will be shortened, either at the beginning or the end of their shifts. However, splitting the two-hour reduction throughout the day is not permitted. The specific application of this adjustment will be determined based on the regulations and systems in place at each government entity and its related institutions.
