The United Kingdom has named Qudsi Rasheed as its new Ambassador to Kuwait, starting in September 2025. This appointment strengthens the UK-Kuwait partnership, which continues to evolve across many sectors.
Rasheed will replace Ambassador Belinda Lewis, who will soon take up a new diplomatic assignment after more than four years in Kuwait.
Rasheed offers strong Middle East expertise through his various diplomatic roles. Previously, he served as Deputy Head of Mission in Cairo and led multilateral policy efforts at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
Additionally, he headed the UK Syria Office in Beirut, further deepening his experience in regional affairs.
Rasheed will arrive in Kuwait alongside his wife, Leen, who is expecting their first child this summer.
In a personal statement, Rasheed expressed excitement and commitment toward the UK-Kuwait partnership. He said it was an honor to represent Britain in a country with such historic ties.
He highlighted Kuwait’s role as a vital partner in diplomacy, defense, trade, and cultural exchange.
Moreover, Rasheed emphasized that he aims to deepen cooperation across all strategic areas. He pledged to build upon Ambassador Lewis’s achievements and maintain continuity in shared objectives.
Ambassador Belinda Lewis offered heartfelt thanks to Kuwait’s leaders and citizens. She recalled over four years of productive collaboration across diverse sectors.
She noted the unique depth of the UK-Kuwait partnership, describing it as rooted in history and enriched by personal ties.
Although she is moving on to a new post, she said Kuwait would always hold a meaningful place in her life.
She wished Rasheed and his family success as they begin their new journey in the country.
As the new appointment nears, both nations appear poised to further elevate the UK-Kuwait partnership into its next chapter.
