Qatar’s Innovation Economy Drives Growth and Global Impact, Says PM at Economic Forum

Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani highlighted Qatar’s innovation economy as a key driver of growth and global investment. He spoke at the fifth Qatar Economic Forum (QEF) under the theme “The Road to 2030: Transforming the Global Economy.”

He began by reaffirming Qatar’s commitment to building a diversified, knowledge-based economy. Moreover, he stressed the need to embrace technology, adaptability, and global cooperation to succeed.

Qatar’s innovation economy relies on trust, strategic vision, and competitiveness. Therefore, it attracts investors and international partners who believe in the country’s future.

The Prime Minister reported that Qatar achieved 2.4 percent real GDP growth in 2024. The non-oil sectors expanded by 3.4 percent, reflecting steady progress towards the national development goals.

Foreign direct investment is set to reach QR9.9 billion by the end of 2024. This increase shows growing global confidence in Qatar’s innovation economy.

To boost this momentum, the government introduced new investment incentives. These focus on strategic sectors like advanced manufacturing, logistics, and emerging technologies. Consequently, Qatar’s innovation economy gains strength and resilience.

Domestically, the Prime Minister pointed to the Simaisma Project as a major driver. This large entertainment development will stimulate real estate and tourism growth.

Internationally, Qatar successfully hosted the Web Summit in February 2025. The event connected more than 25,000 participants from 124 countries, linking startups with global investors.

Qatar also secured the Mobile World Congress hosting rights for the next five years. This achievement places the country at the heart of the digital economy.

Looking forward, Qatar plans to launch a major digital initiative. This project aims to gain international recognition and further boost Qatar’s innovation economy.

On regional issues, the Prime Minister condemned Israeli aggression in Gaza and called for peace. He also welcomed the U.S. decision to ease Syria sanctions.

Finally, he expressed hope that the forum’s discussions would lead to meaningful partnerships. These efforts will advance sustainable development regionally and globally.
