Qatar supports Afghanistan by reaffirming its strong commitment to working with international partners to help the Afghan people build a peaceful and stable state. The State of Qatar delivered this message at the United Nations General Assembly’s plenary session in New York. Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, presented the statement during the session on the situation in Afghanistan.
She emphasized that Qatar supports Afghanistan by actively contributing to peace and stability efforts. Qatar began its initiatives with the launch of the Doha peace process. Additionally, it hosted several dialogues involving all segments of Afghan society. These efforts resulted in the 2020 peace agreement between the United States and the Taliban.
Moreover, Qatar played a vital role in facilitating talks between the United Nations, concerned nations, and the Afghan caretaker government. Through the UN-led Doha Process, Qatar aimed to create a comprehensive framework for stronger and more organized international engagement. This approach helps Afghanistan achieve internal peace, improve relations with neighboring countries, and reintegrate into the international community.
Qatar’s dedication extends to practical actions on the ground. For example, the Doha Process established specialized working groups focusing on priority areas identified in Afghanistan’s independent assessment. Recently, Doha hosted the third meeting of the counter-narcotics working group. This group reviewed strategies to fight drugs and reduce their regional and global impact. On July 1, the second private sector working group met to boost economic engagement and development.
Qatar supports Afghanistan by tackling multifaceted challenges that require global cooperation. These challenges include providing humanitarian aid, addressing natural disasters like droughts and floods, creating economic recovery opportunities, and expanding access to education.
Furthermore, Qatar collaborates with UN agencies to deliver food assistance, improve healthcare programs, and support educational opportunities for Afghan children. Qatar offers scholarships and promotes economic empowerment for Afghan women, helping them become more resilient to crises. In addition, Qatar runs programs to empower Afghan youth, both men and women, ensuring they can contribute to the country’s future.
Overall, Qatar supports Afghanistan through a comprehensive approach that combines political dialogue, humanitarian aid, and sustainable development efforts. This dedication underscores Qatar’s firm belief in building a peaceful, stable, and thriving Afghan state.
