Qatar Strengthens Intellectual Property Strategy with Korean Partnership

Qatar has taken a major step forward in building a strong innovation ecosystem by signing a strategic partnership programme with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). This new agreement reinforces the country’s commitment to developing a robust intellectual property strategy while supporting local talent.

The signing ceremony included Mohammed bin Hassan Al-Malki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), and Wan Ki Kim, Commissioner of KIPO. The event highlighted the shared vision of both nations to enhance cooperation in the field of intellectual property.

This partnership builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 15, 2023, in Seoul. That agreement created a foundation for comprehensive bilateral work, and this latest programme marks a concrete move toward implementation.

Through this partnership, Qatar aims to create an integrated national intellectual property strategy. Moreover, the programme introduces advanced initiatives to strengthen institutional frameworks and empower human resources. This approach supports the country’s shift toward an innovation-driven economy and modernizes legal and regulatory systems.

Importantly, both parties will focus on developing human capital within Qatar’s intellectual property ecosystem. By benchmarking local practices against global standards, Qatar will ensure it remains competitive. In addition, consultations with stakeholders will help design systems that match national needs.

Furthermore, the partnership will allow Qatar to benefit from Korea’s expertise. Knowledge transfer and technical training will build Qatari professionals’ skills, preparing them to handle future challenges confidently.

The Ministry and KIPO will also work together to monitor progress closely. By setting clear goals and evaluation measures, both sides aim to ensure the programme achieves its objectives. This ongoing cooperation will strengthen ties between Qatar and Korea while supporting Qatar’s long-term innovation ambitions.

Ultimately, this strategic partnership highlights Qatar’s dedication to developing a strong intellectual property strategy. With continued collaboration, the country can drive economic growth and inspire a new generation of innovators.
