Qatar Red Crescent Eid sacrificial project strengthens food security across multiple countries

The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) launched the Qatar Red Crescent Eid sacrificial project to support vulnerable families in multiple countries. This initiative promotes food security and strengthens social solidarity during the Eid Al-Adha holiday.

QRCS partnered with local Red Crescent societies and humanitarian groups to implement the project. Together, they reached more than 500,000 people across several regions. The effort reflects a strong commitment to community support during religious celebrations.

In the Gaza Strip, QRCS completed the first phase of the project by delivering 12,810 sacrifices to needy families. The team carefully selected and examined livestock before processing them. Workers slaughtered, butchered, packaged, and froze the meat with strict quality control. They then prepared it as partially cooked, sauced canned meals for future delivery. QRCS plans to send the meals as soon as the border crossings reopen.

QRCS also worked with partners in Djibouti, Chad, and Tanzania. They distributed sacrificial meat from cows and goats during the first two days of Eid. This effort supported around 22,838 individuals living in poor and remote areas.

In Niger, QRCS coordinated with local organizations to distribute meat in Niamey and Tillabéri. Their joint operation helped 5,150 families, reaching around 34,502 people. These distributions reduced hunger and improved access to food in struggling communities.

In Bangladesh, QRCS used donations from Qatar to deliver meat to 4,500 families. Around 22,500 people benefited from this program, which focused on strengthening social unity during difficult economic times.

In Afghanistan, QRCS cooperated with the Afghan Red Crescent Society. Together, they reached 7,840 individuals from extremely poor households in Zabul and Nangarhar provinces.

Meanwhile, the QRCS team in Sudan collaborated with the Sudanese Red Crescent to carry out their campaign. They reached 3,676 families, helping about 25,732 people. They focused on poor and displaced families in Al-Qadarif, Al-Faw, Basonda, and Al-Shawak municipalities.

The Qatar Red Crescent Eid sacrificial project continues to support those in need. It highlights compassion, promotes social bonds, and boosts food security in regions facing crisis.
