Qatar remains committed to protecting children’s rights, said Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC). Speaking at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, she stressed that Qatar puts children’s rights first.
Al Attiyah highlighted Qatar’s efforts in ensuring equal education and top-quality healthcare for all children. She pointed out that the NHRC closely monitors the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Qatar has also ratified key protocols to strengthen child protection.
Raising awareness about children’s rights is a top priority for the NHRC, she said. The committee works continuously to promote policies that safeguard children, especially in the digital space. She emphasized that Qatar puts children’s rights first by educating parents, teachers, and officials on the risks children face online.
To reinforce these efforts, the NHRC organized the third national forum in Doha last year. The event focused on protecting children’s rights in a safe digital environment. Experts discussed challenges and proposed solutions to enhance digital safety. The forum recommended training national authorities on child protection in the online world.
Al Attiyah also called for stronger international cooperation in child protection. She urged global organizations and civil society groups to join hands with Qatar in this mission. Through collaboration, countries can share experiences and improve digital safety measures.
Qatar puts children’s rights first by taking action rather than making promises, she said. The NHRC remains dedicated to creating a secure environment for children to learn and grow. The committee will continue advocating for stronger laws and awareness campaigns to protect young people from digital threats.
With a firm commitment to child protection, Qatar aims to set an example in ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all children.
