Qatar Open Data Portal Supports Data Governance and Innovation

The National Planning Council announced the launch of the newly revamped Qatar Open Data Portal during a major forum. The event, titled “Toward Integrated National Data Governance: Achievements, Partnerships, and Sustainable Support,” focused on modernizing the country’s data systems.

Dr. Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the National Planning Council, opened the forum. He highlighted that the National Data Program had reached important milestones in recent years. He explained that these achievements align with the goals of the Third National Development Strategy.

One of the biggest announcements was the launch of the Qatar Open Data Portal in its new form. Dr. Al Khalifa stated that the updated portal now provides access to more than 1,100 datasets. These datasets cover various sectors, including economy, health, and environment.

According to Dr. Al Khalifa, the Qatar Open Data Portal is essential for attracting foreign investments. It helps investors make informed economic decisions. It also directly supports Qatar’s goals for economic growth and diversification.

Furthermore, the forum aimed to strengthen cooperation between ministries and government agencies. It engaged planning, quality, and IT departments to improve data governance. By working together, these departments can achieve better integration and shared responsibility.

The Qatar Open Data Portal supports transparency and fosters trust among citizens. During the event, a visual presentation explained the technical structure of the platform. It showed how the system ensures open access to government data following international best practices.

Additionally, the National Statistics Center used the forum to answer questions from government representatives. Officials explained each department’s role in implementing the National Data Governance Program. They also highlighted the technical and training support available to help align institutional efforts with national policies.

This forum builds on the National Planning Council’s previous initiatives. In May, the Council launched the National Data and Statistics Strategy under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. This strategy has become a foundation for many new projects that modernize Qatar’s data ecosystem.

The Qatar Open Data Portal supports national innovation by making data accessible to everyone. By promoting open data, Qatar aims to inspire new solutions and strengthen public-private partnerships. This approach boosts economic opportunities and improves service delivery across sectors.

In conclusion, the Qatar Open Data Portal supports data governance, economic growth, and public trust. Its launch represents a significant step toward a transparent and innovative future for Qatar.
