Qatar mediation efforts continue to play a vital role in advancing peace talks between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed this during a recent press briefing in Doha.
He explained that both Palestinian and Israeli delegations are in Doha, where officials hold separate discussions with each side. Qatar mediation efforts focus on creating a suitable environment to agree on a negotiation framework before launching direct negotiations.
Although it is too early to predict an outcome, Al Ansari noted that the talks are ongoing. Both sides remain engaged. He expressed Qatar’s appreciation for the United States’ support and emphasized that Qatar and Egyptian teams are working tirelessly around the clock to build this framework.
Moreover, Al Ansari reaffirmed Qatar’s strong stance against any attempts to displace the Palestinian people. He stressed that any such plans contradict international and humanitarian laws. Qatar calls on the international community to support this position and reject forced displacement.
While discussing progress, Al Ansari said that Qatar mediation efforts seek to end the ongoing war and the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip. Current discussions focus on the proposed truce, its conditions, and possible guarantees. By establishing a truce, Qatar hopes to pave the way for final negotiations to resolve this crisis.
He also highlighted supportive statements from US President Donald Trump. Additionally, he welcomed US envoy Steve Witkoff to visit Doha anytime to boost these efforts. According to Al Ansari, the success of these talks depends on confidentiality and continuous engagement. Any new ground escalation only complicates the mission of mediators and prolongs civilian suffering.
The Israeli escalation in Gaza remains severe, with hundreds of Palestinians losing their lives daily since the last truce collapsed. Al Ansari described the situation as a full-fledged humanitarian catastrophe witnessed by the entire world.
Additionally, Al Ansari warned that media leaks can create negative narratives and shift positions inside the negotiation room. He assured that Qatar will only share updates when the process matures and information is ready to release.
Al Ansari also celebrated a recent achievement for Qatar’s diplomacy. He mentioned that Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani received the Tipperary International Peace Award last Tuesday in Ireland.
This prestigious award recognizes Qatar mediation efforts and its diplomatic leadership in conflicts across Gaza, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Sudan, and other regions. In his acceptance speech, Sheikh Mohammed praised the wise leadership of Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. He expressed pride in guiding Qatar’s foreign policy.
Through these actions, Qatar mediation efforts demonstrate a strong commitment to global peace and humanitarian support. Qatar remains steadfast in its dedication to peaceful solutions. It will continue its mission to end conflicts and protect vulnerable communities.
