Qatar GWC Improves Occupational Safety Standards

Qatar’s Gulf Warehousing Company (GWC) strengthened workplace safety by enhancing its occupational safety standards. The Ministry of Labour partnered with GWC to hold an awareness seminar on safe storage and handling of hazardous materials. Moreover, participants included the Prevention Department at the General Directorate of Civil Defence, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s Chemicals and Hazardous Waste Department, and academic advisers from the University of Doha for Science and Technology. The seminar aimed to increase knowledge of occupational safety standards and provide preventive measures to reduce risks in storage and transportation operations.

Furthermore, Nasser Al Hajri, Chief People Officer at GWC, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Labour for promoting safety awareness. He emphasized that GWC prioritizes the health and safety of all employees. The company provides thorough training on occupational safety and health procedures, proper use of personal protective equipment, regular emergency drills, and a safe work environment. In addition, it encourages active hazard prevention and promotes a culture of awareness and best practices.

Al Hajri explained that GWC follows strict international safety protocols to store hazardous materials safely. Employees receive continuous training on safe handling, emergency preparedness, and operational safety. The company also uses gas monitoring alarms, fire alarms, secondary containment systems, and routine maintenance. Risk assessments occur regularly, and staff continually reinforce occupational health and safety awareness.

Moreover, GWC uses a Safety Observation Reporting (SOR) System. This system allows all employees to report daily workplace observations. As a result, the company can quickly identify and reduce occupational hazards or unsafe conditions in the workplace.

Al Hajri highlighted that GWC actively improves its occupational safety standards by integrating them into daily operations. Additionally, the company promotes awareness of safety, health, and environmental management systems. GWC also enhances risk assessments, work procedure controls, and monitors health, safety, environment, and security performance indicators. This includes occupational health, workplace injuries, illnesses, and security incidents. These measures align with the latest international standards and best practices.

Experts note that GWC’s focus on occupational safety standards demonstrates leadership in logistics safety. Leaders agree that occupational safety standards help protect employees, reduce workplace incidents, and ensure operational efficiency. Furthermore, by continually improving these standards, GWC maintains a safe and compliant work environment for all staff.

Overall, GWC’s commitment to occupational safety standards reflects its dedication to employee well-being, operational excellence, and compliance with global safety practices. The company continues to set benchmarks for health, safety, and environmental management in Qatar’s logistics sector.
