Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and CEO of QatarEnergy, H E Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, emphasized the need for a balanced and inclusive global energy transition. He spoke during the Ministerial Plenary Session of the India Energy Week 2025 in New Delhi.
Addressing industry leaders and policymakers, Minister Al Kaabi highlighted the urgent need to accommodate rising global energy demands. He stressed the importance of considering economic growth, environmental sustainability, and energy accessibility. He underscored that over a billion people still lack access to basic electricity. This challenge will intensify with an estimated global population increase of up to two billion by 2050. Additionally, there will be a rapid expansion of the middle class.
“We need a diverse energy mix that includes oil, gas, and renewables to ensure long-term energy resilience,” Al Kaabi stated. He also stressed the importance of sustained investment in the oil and gas sector to prevent supply shortages and energy price volatility. “Demonizing energy producers does not solve environmental concerns or guarantee affordable energy,” he added.
The panel discussion also featured India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, H E Hardeep Singh Puri. It included Tanzania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, H E Doto Mashaka Biteko, and the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, H E Ed Miliband.
The session reinforced the necessity of a pragmatic energy strategy that balances traditional and renewable energy sources. It must also address global economic and social challenges.
