The Cabinet has approved several draft decrees related to the Ras Abu Fontas (Facility E) power and water production plant. This is a major infrastructure project aimed at strengthening Qatar’s energy and water security.
The initiative, led by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), is part of the nation’s strategic goals under Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030). The project aims to ensure safe and sustainable supplies of electricity and water. Additionally, it promotes public-private partnerships.
The decision was made during a weekly Cabinet meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Cabinet praised the outcomes of the Amir’s recent visit to the Russian Federation on April 17. It noted the positive discussions between His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Cabinet emphasized the visit’s role in expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly through new agreements and memoranda of understanding.
The Cabinet also commended the results of talks between His Highness and the President of Lebanon, General Joseph Aoun, during the latter’s visit to Qatar on April 15-16. The discussions reinforced the historical ties between the two nations. Additionally, they reaffirmed mutual efforts to boost stability and development in the region.
Other agenda items included the Cabinet’s acknowledgment of the Shura Council’s approval of a draft law to regulate meteorological services. The law is designed to enhance private sector participation and ensure high-quality weather services.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved:
- A draft decision to adopt a national technical regulation aimed at improving food and agricultural product standards.
- A draft agreement on agricultural cooperation with Algeria.
- A memorandum of understanding on maritime cooperation with Cyprus.
- An executive program for sports and youth cooperation with Hungary for 2025–2026.
The meeting concluded with a review of the 2024 annual report from the Anti-Concealment Committee, followed by appropriate decisions.
