Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani gave his preliminary approval today, Wednesday, to participate in the upcoming Arab-Russian Summit.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s office announced that al-Sudani met with Mikhail Bogdanov, the Special Envoy of the Russian President to the Middle East and North Africa. They discussed strengthening the relationship between Iraq and Russia, with a focus on improving cooperation across various sectors.
The meeting also covered the current regional and international situation, along with efforts to support stability in the region.
Al-Sudani expressed his initial support for attending the Arab-Russian Summit, which will be hosted by Russia soon, emphasizing the importance of the summit for achieving common goals.
He highlighted the government’s desire to enhance relations with Russia and expand cooperation in different fields. The Prime Minister also stressed the need for joint efforts on the development road project and Russian transit route projects, which aim to benefit both countries.
In return, Bogdanov conveyed greetings from Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed Russia’s interest in activating bilateral agreements. He also mentioned the upcoming tenth meeting of the Iraqi-Russian Joint Committee, which will focus on implementing various agreements and strengthening the partnership between the two nations.
