Port Growth Oman Hits 2025 High

The Sultanate of Oman has reported significant port growth oman during the first half of 2025. This achievement reflects both rising trade activity and continued government investment in logistics infrastructure. Officials highlighted that the combination of ship arrivals, container handling, and goods throughput underscores the ports’ growing importance to the national economy.

Mahana bin Moosa bin Baqer, Director General of Ports at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said container handling increased sharply. The ports of Salalah, Sohar, and Duqm managed more than 2.427 million containers during the first half of 2025. This compares with 2.173 million containers in the same period of 2024, showing growth of 11.7 percent.

Furthermore, he explained that the increase reflects the efficiency of logistics operations across the ports. The ability to meet rising demand demonstrates the sector’s resilience. Stronger performance also confirms the government’s strategic focus on boosting capacity and infrastructure.

In addition, Omani ports and associated piers received 5,686 ships in the first half of 2025. This marked a rise of 11.1 percent from 5,930 ships during the same period in 2024. Officials attributed this increase to contributions from Sultan Qaboos, Shinas, and Salalah ports.

Moreover, the volume of goods handled showed another surge. Total goods reached 70.114 million tonnes during the first half of 2025 compared to 66.620 million tonnes in 2024. The expansion highlights how port growth oman strengthens economic activity.

Alongside cargo, vehicle handling and livestock imports also advanced. The ports received 50,248 vehicles and imported 2.694 million heads of livestock. These diverse activities illustrate how Omani ports support not just trade but also wider market needs.

The Director General stressed that these developments indicate strong competitiveness and reliability. Enhanced infrastructure, new technology, and streamlined processes have positioned Oman as a regional logistics hub.

In conclusion, port growth oman during the first half of 2025 highlights rising demand, strong investment, and expanded services. With steady progress, Omani ports remain central to the nation’s long-term strategy for trade and logistics leadership.
