OPEC Chief to Lead Delegation at Baghdad Energy Forum

OPEC Chief at Baghdad Energy Forum will headline the inaugural event on September 6–7. The gathering, hosted by Iraq’s State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO), carries the theme “Toward Optimal Utilization of Oil and Gas in Parallel with Energy Transition: Tomorrow’s Energy Begins Now.”

The forum will bring together OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al-Ghais, regional energy ministers, and leaders of major energy firms. Executives from BP, TotalEnergies, Chevron, Eni, and Shell will attend, reflecting the event’s international importance. OPEC Chief at Baghdad Energy Forum highlights Iraq’s rising role in global energy discussions.

Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani will join the sessions. However, they aim to highlight Iraq’s energy opportunities and strengthen ties with global companies. Participants will discuss strategies to balance hydrocarbons with renewable energy development.

The OPEC Secretary General stressed that oil and gas will remain essential. He predicted they will supply more than half of global energy by 2050. However, the forum will also emphasize renewable investments, as governments seek a balanced energy transition.

Panel sessions will cover oil market stability and Iraq’s investment climate. Officials want to demonstrate how Iraq can attract new projects. They will also showcase Iraq’s efforts to modernize energy infrastructure and align with sustainability goals.

The OPEC Chief at Baghdad Energy Forum will engage in talks on challenges from the global energy shift. As renewables gain importance, discussions will explore how Iraq and OPEC can balance oil demand with climate commitments.

While uniting policymakers and industry leaders, the Baghdad Energy Forum seeks to shape a roadmap for long-term cooperation. The outcome will influence investment decisions and define the future of Iraq’s energy sector.
