Omani Heritage Law: Action Against Illegal Metal Detectors

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in Oman has raised alarms over the illegal use of metal detectors in archaeological areas. These actions involve searching for and excavating artifacts, which directly violates the Omani Cultural Heritage Law.

The Ministry has urged the public to avoid such activities. It made it clear that using metal detectors in heritage sites is against the law. The Ministry also stressed that they will take legal action, according to the Omani Cultural Heritage Law, as stated in Royal Decree (35/2019).

In addition, the Ministry confirmed it is taking steps to address the illegal practice. It is working to ensure that regulations are followed and that Oman’s cultural heritage is protected. The Ministry emphasized its commitment to preserving historical sites and preventing damage caused by unauthorized excavations.

The Ministry’s statement also highlighted the significance of safeguarding Oman’s cultural legacy for future generations. It encouraged both residents and visitors to learn about the laws in place to protect archaeological sites and artifacts. Protecting these sites ensures the preservation of the country’s rich heritage.
