Oman has taken another step toward a greener energy future. OQ Exploration and Production (OQEP) signed two major natural gas agreements that strengthen the country’s position in sustainable energy. These partnerships highlight Oman’s clean energy development, reflecting the nation’s goal to balance progress and environmental responsibility.
OQEP signed a Natural Gas Sales Agreement with Integrated Gas Company (IGC) for Block 65. It also agreed to transport natural gas for the Marsa LNG project. Together, these deals aim to boost the efficiency of Oman’s gas sector and ensure better integration across the national energy system.
Under the first deal, OQEP and Occidental will deliver their shares of gas from Block 65 to IGC. OQEP holds a 49% stake in the field. However, this cooperation supports Oman’s clean energy development and aligns with the country’s broader sustainability goals.
Moreover, the Marsa LNG agreement focuses on transporting gas from Block 10. The deal involves IGC and Marsa LNG LLC, a joint venture between TotalEnergies and OQEP’s subsidiary, Muzn LNG. Marsa LNG will move up to 150 million standard cubic feet of gas daily through OQ Gas Networks’ infrastructure to its new facility at the Port of Sohar.
Importantly, the Marsa project will produce low-emission liquefied natural gas (LNG). With an expected annual capacity of one million metric tons, it will serve as a regional hub for LNG bunkering and clean marine fuel. This development strengthens Oman’s role in global sustainable energy and maritime trade.
The second agreement involves OQEP, IGC, and Occidental Oman Block 65 LLC. It focuses on ensuring a steady gas supply to support Oman’s growing industrial and energy sectors.
In addition, OQEP stated that these deals are part of its long-term plan to create an integrated gas system. The company is working across exploration, production, and marketing to make Oman a model for energy efficiency.
Overall, OQEP leaders emphasized that international partners trust Oman’s investment climate. They added that both projects reflect Oman’s forward-thinking approach to clean energy transition.
Through innovation, technology, and collaboration, Oman continues to advance Oman’s clean energy development while supporting Vision 2040 and the national goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
