Oman Revives Architecture with Innovative Initiative

Oman recently concluded an initiative aimed at reviving Omani architecture and showcasing innovative designs. The event took place at the Oman Across Ages Museum in Manah and ended on Saturday. This initiative, organized by the Office of His Highness Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, ran from February 19 to February 22.

Reviving Omani Architecture

The Architecture Revival Initiative is part of the Bilarab Bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design. It also ties into the competition for designing Oman’s Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Japan. The program focuses on various sectors involved in architectural design within Oman, including professionals, experts, and students.

His Highness Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said has shown significant support for this initiative. He recognizes architecture as an essential part of Oman’s national identity. Therefore, His Highness aims to increase awareness and encourage the preservation of traditional Omani architectural styles.

Showcasing Architectural Achievements

The initiative highlighted key achievements and provided visitors with an interactive experience. The Bilarab Bin Haitham Award corner displayed past winners and offered an immersive journey through architectural design. Visitors could learn about the first and second editions of the award, as well as the winning designs for the Oman Pavilion at Expo 2025.

The first edition of the award focused on the development of Hayy Al Mina in Muttrah. This area, which lies between the seafront and the Muttrah Fish Market, covers 7,500 square meters. The second edition introduced a competition for the design of Oman’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Japan. The winning design came from a team that included Bayan bint Masalam Al Ramadani, Ammar Abudulhamid Al Kiyomi, and Nairah bint Khamis Al Hinai. They incorporated the concept of Omani falajs into their pavilion design.

The Future of Omani Architecture

A video presentation showcased the journey of the Bilarab Bin Haitham Award, from its first edition to the announcement of the third edition. This next edition will be launched at the end of this year. The interactive experience also focused on three main pillars of Omani architecture: tradition, innovation, and revitalization.

Notable personalities, such as Honourable Lady Sayyida Ahad bint Abdullah Al Busaidi and His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, also took part in the event. Their involvement further emphasizes the initiative’s importance to Oman’s cultural and architectural future.
