The break included Accession Day on January 15 and Isra wal Mi‘raj, creating an extended festive period. The holiday encouraged locals and expatriates to travel, explore cultural events, and spend time with family.

The Oman long weekend drew large crowds to Muscat Nights 2026, the capital’s flagship festival combining modern technology with Omani heritage. Visitors flocked to Qurum Park, Amerat Park, and the Oman Automobile Association, enjoying light shows, drone displays, and synchronized water fountains. Event organizers reported that almost all venues were full throughout the weekend.

Beyond entertainment, the festival made the local economy stronger. Job opportunities for Omanis expanded, and small and medium-sized enterprises benefited from the increased footfall. Daily fireworks and cultural evenings enhanced the festival experience, which will continue until January 31. Residents also used the break to shop, visit malls, and stock up on essentials before returning to work.

Meanwhile, the Al Hajar mountains became the preferred getaway for cooler weather. Jabal Shams, Oman’s highest peak, recorded minus 0.8 degrees Celsius, while Jabal Akhdar offered a scenic escape. Hotels in these areas reported exceptional occupancy, with staycations remaining popular among expatriates. Residents appreciated the break for relaxing in natural settings and spending quality family time.

Parks, beaches, cafés, and restaurants saw increased activity, particularly during evenings. Many residents embraced outdoor activities, photography, and sightseeing while enjoying the winter climate. Professionals noted that such breaks help rejuvenate physical and mental well-being.

Overall, the four-day holiday provided a mix of leisure, culture, and family bonding. From mountain retreats to festival experiences, Oman residents maximized the extended break.
