Dr. Fahd Al Jalanda Al Said, Vice Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), met with Xiao Jie in Muscat today. Xiao serves as Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress. Their meeting focused on strengthening Oman-China academic collaboration, a growing area of shared interest.
At the meeting, the Vice Chancellor emphasized SQU’s leadership in shaping the region’s academic and scientific landscape. He stressed the university’s commitment to producing skilled graduates who lead in various sectors. Furthermore, he highlighted ongoing Oman-China academic collaboration, which reflects mutual dedication to educational advancement.
Dr. Al Jalanda pointed out a major milestone reached in 2023. That year, SQU and Chinese universities signed a language-teaching agreement. As a result, students at SQU’s College of Arts and Social Sciences can now study Chinese. Moreover, exchange programs and scholarships allow SQU students to pursue studies in China, expanding international academic experiences.
In response, Xiao Jie praised the impact of SQU’s work and Oman’s commitment to global education. He noted the important role of the Sultan Qaboos Chair for Arabic Language Studies at Peking University. Established in 2007, this academic chair strengthens Oman-China academic collaboration through language and cultural exchange.
Additionally, the Chair encourages joint research, Arabic-Chinese translation, and student-led academic activities. These efforts create a strong cultural bridge between the two countries. Furthermore, they reflect a shared interest in building long-term educational ties.
Both sides expressed strong support for expanding Oman-China academic collaboration through new joint programs and research projects. As global challenges grow, partnerships like this offer sustainable solutions. Ultimately, academic diplomacy continues to be a powerful tool for mutual understanding and national development.
