Oman Airports expansion plans are gaining momentum as the company works to bring new direct flights to the Sultanate. CEO Engineer Ahmed Said Al Amri confirmed the company’s ongoing discussions with major international airlines. These efforts aim to increase airline partnerships, improve performance, and boost airport revenue.
Oman Airports is currently negotiating with Wizz Air to start direct flights from Europe to Oman. Talks include potential routes via Budapest and other European cities. According to Al Amri, the company is eager to finalize these agreements and launch the routes soon.
At the same time, Oman Airports is working closely with the Chinese Embassy in Muscat. Together, they are trying to bring China Eastern Airlines to the country. The targeted routes may connect Muscat with either Shanghai or Guangzhou.
Additionally, Al Amri said Oman Airports is offering several incentive packages to support these routes. These incentives are part of Oman Airports expansion plans to strengthen global connectivity.
He also revealed ongoing cooperation with LOT Polish Airlines to establish a direct link between Muscat and Warsaw. Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority is coordinating with Polish aviation officials to open this route officially.
Moreover, Oman Airports is exploring opportunities in Southeast Asia. Its commercial team is working with Oman Air to study the Vietnamese market. They are assessing the country’s potential for direct flight demand and tourism growth.
In terms of local performance, Salalah Airport has seen strong growth in 2024. Arrivals increased during the autumn season from GCC countries and during winter from Scandinavia and Belarus.
Meanwhile, Muscat International Airport has experienced a steady rise in passenger numbers post-pandemic. However, transfer traffic remains lower due to Oman Air’s reduced flight operations and smaller fleet size.
As part of Oman Airports expansion plans, a strategic agreement was signed with Changi Airport in Singapore. This partnership focuses on boosting aviation and commercial revenue across Oman’s airport network.
Finally, Al Amri announced a memorandum of understanding with a Malaysian firm. This deal explores investment opportunities on land within Muscat International Airport, supporting long-term airport development goals.
