Oman Air has joined the global effort to combat illegal wildlife trafficking after signing the Buckingham Palace Declaration, becoming the latest member of the United for Wildlife Transport Taskforce.
The declaration was signed in London by Oman Air Chief Executive Officer Con Korfiatis during the Transport Taskforce’s 10th anniversary event.
Founded by Prince William and The Royal Foundation, United for Wildlife brings together more than 400 organisations from the aviation, shipping, logistics and transport sectors to help disrupt illegal wildlife trade through greater cooperation, awareness and information sharing.
As a member of the taskforce, Oman Air will work alongside industry partners to strengthen measures aimed at detecting wildlife trafficking, promoting zero-tolerance policies and supporting law enforcement efforts.
Korfiatis said the airline recognises its responsibility as Oman’s national carrier to help prevent the illegal transport of endangered wildlife through international aviation and is committed to supporting collaborative global action against the trade.
Lord William Hague, Co-Chair of United for Wildlife, welcomed Oman Air’s membership, saying the airline’s participation would strengthen international efforts to identify trafficking routes and improve cooperation between the aviation sector, conservation organisations and law enforcement agencies.
The move also reflects Oman Air’s wider sustainability strategy and supports Oman’s Net Zero 2050 vision. The airline is a member of the Environmental Protection Committee led by the Civil Aviation Authority and continues to participate in national initiatives to advance sustainable aviation.
