Norway’s royal palace has released the first images of Crown Princess Mette-Marit following her lung transplant in June, showing her recovering while spending time with Crown Prince Haakon.
The palace shared photos of the couple watching Norway’s historic World Cup victory over Brazil, which secured the country’s first-ever place in the tournament’s quarter-finals. The royal family described the evening as a memorable moment for the nation.
A second image showed the couple looking out from a palace window as crowds celebrated outside. However, palace officials confirmed that the crown princess remains in hospital and has not yet been discharged.
Mette-Marit, 52, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018, a condition that causes lung scarring and breathing difficulties. Her health gradually declined in recent months, leading doctors to place her on the transplant waiting list before she underwent the procedure on June 17.
The palace previously described the lung transplant as successful, while her medical team continues to monitor her recovery.
The health update comes as Norway’s royal family faces public attention over other challenges, including legal proceedings involving Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, and renewed scrutiny over past contacts involving the crown princess.
