The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) of Qatar has taken a major step to boost international cooperation. It signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with the Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions. This agreement aims to enhance NHRC Asia-Pacific Forum cooperation and support mutual development in human rights practices.
The MoC was signed in Sydney during an official visit by NHRC Vice-Chairman Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al-Kuwari. During the visit, he held key meetings with several senior officials. These included Kieren Fitzpatrick, Director of the Asia-Pacific Forum; Hugh de Kretser, President of the Australian Human Rights Commission; and Kate Anderson, Assistant Commonwealth Ombudsman.
The agreement outlines various areas of collaboration. These include exchanging best practices, relevant legislation, and informative publications. It also supports holding joint workshops and mutual visits to deepen cooperation and understanding.
Consultative meetings and interactive dialogues will also take place. These will address emerging regional and global human rights issues. The aim is to develop joint positions and statements in response to these developments.
Before signing the MoC, Dr. Al-Kuwari highlighted Qatar’s firm commitment to human rights. He emphasized the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect. He noted that both Qatar and Australia play vital roles in promoting peace, tolerance, and understanding between civilizations.
In his meeting with Hugh de Kretser, both sides agreed on a future plan. They will prepare a memorandum of understanding between NHRC and the Australian Human Rights Commission. This MoU will include official visits, participation in global human rights events, and increased joint efforts.
The NHRC’s new partnership with the Asia-Pacific Forum reflects its global outlook. It shows Qatar’s desire to lead and support international human rights efforts. This cooperation strengthens Qatar’s position on the global human rights stage.
Overall, together NHRC and its partners aim to build a future rooted in dignity, justice, and equality. Their shared vision will help promote stability and understanding across the region and beyond.
