Newborn Hearing Screening in Bahrain Highlighted at National Health Forum

Government hospitals in Bahrain held an awareness forum on newborn hearing screening in Bahrain at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. The gathering brought together consultants, doctors, and healthcare teams from different hospitals and health centers across the Kingdom.

The forum reflected Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to improve prevention programs for children. Moreover, it underlined the importance of quality care starting at birth. By focusing on early testing, the Kingdom seeks to protect the health of future generations.

During the event, Dr. Mariam Adhbi Al Jalahma explained that this forum highlights Bahrain’s strong commitment to preventive health. She noted that doctors and nurses need proper training and tools to raise the standard of care. In addition, she stressed that newborn hearing tests provide a healthy start for every child.

She also thanked all participants and supporting partners for their role in making the forum a success. Furthermore, she pointed out that the ENT department continues to serve as a key part of integrated healthcare services in Bahrain.

Meanwhile, Dr. Maryam Khalil Sahwan, Head of the Otorhinolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, called the forum an important scientific platform. She explained that experts reviewed the newest practices and tools in early hearing tests. In addition, she stated that screening at birth now plays a central role in a child’s health journey.

Dr. Sahwan also said that these tests help children develop natural communication and language skills. She confirmed that Bahrain’s hospitals will keep expanding the program to reach more newborns in the future.

Throughout the forum, speakers emphasized that hearing tests at birth are more than just routine checks. Instead, they are the first step toward early treatment and better outcomes. With early intervention, children gain stronger social, language, and learning abilities.

In the end, the forum reinforced Bahrain’s vision for a healthier society. By raising awareness and sharing knowledge, it showed that cooperation between institutions can drive real change. Clearly, newborn hearing screening in Bahrain is not only a medical program but also a national priority. Ultimately, continuous investment and awareness will secure the success of newborn hearing screening in Bahrain for years to come.
