The newly launched Türkiye-Kuwait land route is transforming regional trade by cutting transport time and improving logistics efficiency. This strategic corridor, which passes through Iraq, now offers a fast and secure alternative to traditional maritime shipping.
Three trucks loaded with fresh produce recently traveled from Türkiye to Kuwait in just four days. This is a major leap forward compared to the old sea route, which took up to 45 days. The journey marks a successful trial under the TIR transit system.
Hasbayrak International Transport, a Turkish logistics firm, managed the first shipment on this new path. The trucks passed smoothly through Iraq, using the Al Abdali border and completing customs procedures at the Sulaybia Dry Port. The use of inland clearance points proved effective and efficient.
Additionally, this shift in trade logistics signals the reactivation of TIR in Kuwait. National customs authorities fully supported the initiative, streamlining procedures and reducing wait times at the borders.
Moreover, the Türkiye-Kuwait land route brings several advantages. First, perishable goods now arrive fresher and faster. Second, exporters and importers benefit from more predictable delivery schedules. Finally, transport companies reduce fuel and operation costs.
Industry leaders praised the collaboration between international partners, transport associations, and customs authorities. They emphasized how the new route enhances Iraq’s role as a regional trade hub. The project also supports Iraq’s reconstruction efforts by boosting cross-border movement and economic activity.
Hasan Bayrak, owner of Hasbayrak International Transport, noted the improvement. He said the past routes were long and exhausting. Now, the Türkiye-Kuwait land route offers faster access to Gulf markets like Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Overall, tahe TIR system played a critical role. It enabled secure, fast, and paperless border crossings, increasing trust among transport operators. However, the process now runs smoothly, benefiting both companies and consumers across the region.
With this success, regional logistics is entering a new era. The land route is more than a shortcut—it’s a vital link for future growth in Middle East trade.
