Ministry of Awqaf Launches Book on Voluntary Work and Islamic Law

In an effort to enhance the understanding of voluntary work within the framework of Islamic law, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs recently launched a new book titled “Maqāsid-Based Rules and Their Applications in Voluntary Work.” The book, written by Dr. Mustafa Bouhabouh, was unveiled at the Doha International Book Fair. It attracted significant attention from scholars and experts in the field.

The book offers an analytical and scientific study focused on Maqāsid, the objectives of Islamic law. Specifically, it delves into Maqāsid-based rules, which are essential tools in the practice of ijtihād (independent reasoning). These rules play a vital role in the development of contemporary issues surrounding voluntary work. They are particularly relevant in the realm of charitable initiatives and institutions.

Dr. Bouhabouh’s work explores the possibility of applying these rules to address emerging challenges in the voluntary sector. The book not only highlights the importance of these rules but also shows how they can improve the effectiveness and impact of voluntary work. By following these principles, voluntary organizations can align their practices with the core values of Islamic law. This alignment ensures greater success and social benefit.

One of the key themes discussed in the book is the role of Maqāsid in guiding voluntary work. According to Dr. Bouhabouh, these rules provide a methodological structure for scholars and practitioners. They help in building strong foundations for contemporary developments in charitable actions, emphasizing the importance of legal and ethical frameworks.

Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, Director of the Department of Research and Islamic Studies, praised Dr. Bouhabouh’s efforts. He acknowledged the profound depth of the study and its contribution to enhancing the understanding of voluntary work in Islamic jurisprudence. Sheikh Dr. Al Thani also emphasized the importance of voluntary work as an inherent Islamic value. This value is deeply rooted in the teachings of the Qur’an and the Prophetic Sunnah. Furthermore, he underlined the need for solid legal and institutional frameworks to support its growth.

The book is a significant addition to the field of Islamic law. It offers a fresh perspective on how voluntary work can evolve in line with both religious principles and modern-day needs. It aims to encourage scholars and practitioners to prioritize ethical practices and effective strategies in the growing sector of voluntary initiatives.
