Beirut – Lebanese Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny has expressed deep appreciation for Qatar’s unwavering support for Lebanon through various challenges.
Speaking on Tuesday, Rasamny highlighted the strong historical ties between the two nations. He emphasized Qatar’s consistent assistance in crucial moments. Additionally, he noted that Lebanon and Qatar share a longstanding partnership. Qatar’s support has been instrumental in helping Lebanon navigate economic and infrastructural challenges.
The minister stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in ports, airports, and transportation projects. He believes that joint initiatives in these sectors would drive economic growth and improve Lebanon’s infrastructure.
Addressing the aftermath of the recent Israeli aggression, Rasamny outlined his ministry’s priority of rehabilitating damaged infrastructure. This includes roads, border crossings, and essential facilities like ports and airports. He revealed that Lebanon is working closely with international donors to secure funding for reconstruction. Negotiations with the World Bank are ongoing, with a proposed $250 million rehabilitation plan under discussion.
Regarding security at Rafic Hariri International Airport, Rasamny reassured that stringent measures are in place to ensure passenger safety. Enhanced security coordination, upgraded technical capabilities, and improved surveillance aim to prevent smuggling and other security threats.
The minister reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to working with Qatar and other international partners. The goal is to rebuild and strengthen the country’s infrastructure, ensuring long-term stability and growth.
