Arab Museum of Modern Art urges art lovers to visit its ongoing Mathaf Spring 2025 exhibitions. These exhibitions will close on August 9. They are part of the Qatar Creates Spring/Summer 2025 season and offer a rare opportunity. Art lovers can explore Qatari culture, global cinema, and the contributions of pioneering Arab women artists.
The first exhibition, “Qatar: Close to my Soul, Art from the Collection of Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani,” presents a powerful narrative of Qatari art. It features paintings, sculptures, installations, and archival materials. These materials showcase the country’s creative evolution since the 1960s. Curator Fatma Mostafawi highlights how different generations of artists have shaped Qatar’s artistic identity.
Meanwhile, the second exhibition, “Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices,” offers a bold cinematic journey. Curated by Matthieu Orléan, it features works from over 40 filmmakers and video artists across multiple regions. Notably, these regions include the Arab world, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Global South. Organized into seven thematic galleries, the exhibition tackles migration, exile, borders, and cultural resilience. It also includes films supported by the Doha Film Institute. Furthermore, it includes artworks from Mathaf and the future Art Mill Museum. Notably, Qatar Museums and Media City Qatar collaborated to bring this collection to life.
In addition, the third exhibition, “Wafa al-Hamad: Sites of Imagination,” pays tribute to the late Qatari artist renowned for blending abstraction and Arabic lettering. Curated by Lina Ramadan, the exhibit features vibrant figures and landscapes rooted in Qatari traditions. It also honors leading Arab female artists such as Madiha Omar, Balqees Fakhro, Samia Halaby, and others. These artists helped shape regional modern art.
Together, the Mathaf Spring 2025 exhibitions offer a rich cultural experience. They not only reflect Qatar’s artistic depth but also foster global dialogue through creative expression. Since time is limited, Mathaf encourages everyone to visit before the August 9 deadline.
