Kuwait is set to address its ongoing housing challenges with a new initiative by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare. The authority has signed a consulting services contract for the development of three residential areas, a move aligned with Law 118/2023. This law facilitates the creation of companies dedicated to developing and economically managing cities and residential areas in the country.
Eng. Abdullatif Al-Mishari, the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Housing Affairs, emphasized that the contract signing marks the first step in transforming Kuwait’s housing policy. He noted that the initiative aligns with the country’s push for private sector involvement to speed up housing projects and create sustainable, high-quality housing solutions.
Al-Mishari also highlighted the significance of shifting from a state-driven housing model to a partnership-based system with the private sector. This change is part of a broader development strategy aimed at improving the efficiency and quality of housing projects. Under this new model, the government will take on a more regulatory and supervisory role, allowing private developers to handle project execution. This approach is expected to accelerate housing construction and provide better options for citizens.
The three residential areas, selected for their proximity to well-established urban zones, will offer over 5,000 housing units. These areas are being chosen for their appeal to potential residents, with the evaluation process currently underway.
Al-Mishari also called on local and regional investors and real estate companies to participate in these upcoming developments. He stressed that these projects offer significant investment opportunities, and the private sector’s involvement is crucial to their success. By embracing this model, Kuwait aims to modernize its housing system and ensure more efficient, high-quality homes for its citizens.
