Kuwaiti Crown Prince Decries Israeli Actions at UN, Calls for Palestinian State

In a powerful address to the United Nations General Assembly, Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah strongly denounced Israeli military operations. He specifically labeled the long-standing siege and operations as a form of collective punishment condemned by international norms. The Crown Prince stated these actions violate the principles of religion, international law, and basic humanity.

He highlighted the severe human cost of the conflict. Moreover, he accused Israel of using starvation as a weapon of war. The Crown Prince emphasized that peace in the region is impossible under these conditions. He asserted that a just and comprehensive solution requires the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. This state should have East Jerusalem as its capital based on the 1967 borders.

The Crown Prince welcomed the growing international recognition of Palestine. He also urged other nations to follow this path. Additionally, he reaffirmed Kuwait’s continuous support for Palestinian rights and its backing of UNRWA. This collective punishment condemned in his speech forms the core of Kuwait’s diplomatic stance. The Crown Prince also addressed regional stability more broadly.

He expressed support for the sovereignty of Lebanon and Syria. Conversely, he voiced deep concern over the situations in Libya, Yemen, Sudan, and Somalia. The speech also included a direct message to Iran. He called for serious confidence-building measures to restart dialogue based on mutual respect. Furthermore, he discussed bilateral issues with Iraq.

The Crown Prince urged Iraq to take tangible steps on several pending matters. These include maritime boundary demarcation and resolving the issue of prisoners of war. He also stressed the importance of adhering to existing security agreements. On United Nations reform, the Crown Prince argued for a more transparent and credible Security Council. He believes this is essential to confront contemporary threats effectively.

Finally, speaking as the head of the GCC Supreme Council, he reiterated solidarity with Qatar. This followed a recent Israeli attack on its territory. The speech presented a comprehensive view of Kuwait’s foreign policy priorities. The central message remained clear: the collective punishment condemnedby Kuwait is a major obstacle to peace and security in the Middle East.
