Kuwait has expressed its support for the recent progress achieved in the second round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, while praising Oman and Italy for their roles in facilitating the diplomatic dialogue.
In a statement released Sunday, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the announcement from Oman’s Foreign Ministry regarding the outcomes of the second round of discussions, held in Rome. Kuwait also endorsed the decision by both parties to move into the next phase of negotiations, aimed at reaching a permanent and binding agreement.
“The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry appreciates this step, which reflects both parties’ commitment to continuing dialogue based on the progress achieved,” the statement read. “Kuwait fully supports diplomatic efforts to resolve disputes through dialogue, which contribute to regional and international stability.”
Kuwait extended its gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman for hosting the initial phase of talks and to Italy for facilitating the second round in Rome.
Oman’s Foreign Ministry confirmed on Saturday that Iran and the U.S. had agreed to proceed with the next stage of discussions, with the goal of reaching a comprehensive agreement. Key elements of the potential deal include ensuring Iran’s nuclear disarmament, lifting economic sanctions, and preserving Tehran’s right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Omani officials stressed that sustained dialogue and transparent communication remain essential for establishing a reliable and balanced agreement that serves regional and global interests.
The Rome talks, mediated by Oman, concluded as scheduled on Saturday. A third round of negotiations is expected next week. Ismail Baghai, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the talks as “constructive” in a post on X, adding that both parties have agreed to resume technical-level discussions in the coming days, followed by senior-level negotiations on May 6.
