Kuwait Tightens School Attendance Rules to Curb Absenteeism

Kuwait strengthens school attendance rules to reduce absenteeism and ensure students remain engaged in their studies. The Ministry of Education introduced new measures to monitor daily attendance actively, enforce discipline, and encourage students to participate fully in class. Importantly, Kuwait strengthens school attendance rules to create a stable learning environment that supports academic growth.

Education Minister Jalal Al-Tabtabaei directed all educational districts, the General Administration of Religious Education, and the Special Education Department to implement regulatory and educational measures. These steps aim to maintain consistent classroom schedules and keep curricula aligned with approved academic plans.

Additionally, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs Hamad Al-Hamad urged schools to act immediately. He instructed teachers to conduct short quizzes and varied assessments on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Teachers must record grades accurately and transparently to motivate students and maintain engagement.

Moreover, Al-Hamad emphasized that schools should apply the curriculum timeline and use engaging teaching methods. Such approaches encourage students to attend regularly and participate actively. Teachers must monitor attendance continuously, while schools should communicate constructively with parents to support student progress.

The ministry specified that only medical excuses from government hospitals will justify absences. Schools must submit daily absenteeism statistics to district educational affairs offices by the end of each working day. Furthermore, students missing quizzes cannot retake them, ensuring fairness for all. Schools will follow ministry regulations strictly when handling absences.

School evaluations now consider attendance and absenteeism rates. These indicators measure administrative efficiency and discipline promotion. Investigations will follow if any staff encourage absenteeism. In addition, field visits will monitor attendance across all grade levels to ensure compliance.

The Ministry of Education also emphasized following the academic calendar closely. Completing curricula on time prevents learning gaps and safeguards students’ performance. Legal and administrative measures, including immediate investigations, will target staff who violate attendance policies.

Parents play a crucial role in supporting attendance. The ministry urged families to ensure daily school attendance, particularly during Ramadan. It also praised teachers and administrators for keeping students present and engaged. Ultimately, Kuwait strengthens school attendance rules to protect educational quality and ensure students succeed, highlighting that cooperation between families and schools remains essential.
