Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) and bp have extended the Enhanced Technical Services Agreement, strengthening Kuwait’s energy sector. This partnership shows Kuwait’s commitment to increasing oil production and using global expertise.
Under the agreement, bp will provide advanced techniques for enhanced oil recovery in the Greater Burgan oil field. The company will also help KOC manage the South and East Kuwait fields. Fifty bp experts will work directly with KOC, sharing knowledge and improving daily operations. This effort highlights the value of strategic energy collaboration in maximizing Kuwait’s critical oil resources.
The agreement, first signed in 2016 for ten years, now extends through March 2029. The extension supports Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s production goals and long-term energy plans. It also reflects the trust between KOC and bp, showing their ongoing dedication to developing the country’s energy sector.
bp’s leadership emphasized the company’s historic connection with Kuwait, dating back to the discovery of the Greater Burgan oil field in the 1930s. bp’s executive vice president for Gas and Low Carbon Energy said the company aims to support Kuwait’s energy resilience. By combining technology, operational skills, and local talent development, both companies plan to increase oil recovery and productivity efficiently.
KOC and bp also plan to focus on building human resources. Technical secondments will allow KOC staff to gain hands-on experience and develop expertise for managing complex oil operations. The collaboration also strengthens long-term ties across governments, partners, and supply chains, helping Kuwait remain competitive in global energy markets.
Looking ahead, Kuwait and bp will continue working closely to maintain and increase oil production. This partnership will help Kuwait maximize its resources and secure stable energy supplies for years to come, showing the power of strategic energy collaboration.
